Inca weavings skills and ancient farming tools

An Indigenous community invites you to participate in one or more activities that will lead you to experience and learn about their wonderfull culture. You can choose to learn ancient weavings skills, work the land using centuries-old tools, cook with local products that Mother Earth so generously provides, help with local reforestation, witness an ancient ritual, interact with kids at the local school and participate in the collective work of the community, repainting the school, the health centre, communal salon and other buildings.

Day 1 Arrival in Lima

International flight arrival in Lima. On arrival to Lima we will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your hotel in the exclusive district of Miraflores.

Lima was founded on January 18, 1535 by the conqueror Francisco Pizarro and was considered, for almost three centuries, as the Vice-Royal Capital of South America. This fantastic city is nowadays an immeasurable mix of cultures, ethnicities, races and bloods. A festival of colors and customs, an immense wealth of folklore and Creole, between the ancient and the modern.

Day 2 Lima Culinary Tour 

This morning we will start tasting Peru, our first visit takes us to a local roastery, Tostaduria Bisetti, where they hand-pick the coffee beans daily, for an organic Peruvian coffee.  We will visit the colonial streets of the bohemian district, Barranco, home to artists, musicians and the city’s top art galleries. Enjoy an exotic fruit smoothie made from lucuma at the garden cafe, La Bodega Verde. Then off to a traditional market in the San Isidro district to try exotic fruits and local products and learn about its culture.  

We continue to the city’s top seafood restaurants (cebichería), Embarcadero 41 Fusión, where you will discover the secrets to the perfect Cebiche and Pisco Sour. You will prepare the cebiche dish and cocktail yourself with the head chef and bartender. Our final stop is for lunch at la Huaca Pucllana, a restaurant within a pre-Incan archeological complex – undoubtedly a highlight of tourism in Lima Peru. Savor a variety of gourmet Peruvian dishes as well as four different desserts and another pisco-based cocktail. 

Return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 03 Lima to Cusco – Cusco City Tour

This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. You will high up in the Peruvian Andes to Cusco, once the capital of the Incas Empire where you will learn more about the Andean culture as the city itself represents the center of indigenous Quechua culture.

In the afternoon we will pick you up for your City Tour. First, we will visit the Cathedral of Cusco on the Plaza de Armas and continuously the temple of Qoricancha, also known as the temple of the Sun. After these visits, we will continue to the upper part of Cusco to visit several archaeological sites. The first stop will be at Sacsayhuaman, a ceremonial complex of the Incas. We will also visit Qenqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. At the end, we will return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
 

Note: In private service you will first have a tour by foot through the city, visiting Qoricancha the Inca Sun Temple, the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral, enjoying the atmosphere of the city by observing the well-preserved colonial architecture that conserves Incas original stone walls, evidence of a rich and complex history. We will continue our way until we get to San Pedro Central Market where the locals shop for Andean grains, fruits, natural medicine plants and more. Afterwards, drive up above Cusco for a visit of the spectacular Sacsayhuaman Inca complex with stupendous stonework, Qenko a place of rituals and then we will visit the house of Sulca to see the lovely textiles made by hand.

Return to your hotel. Rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 04 Pachamanca Experience -Chinchero/ Urquillos hike -Sacred Valley

This morning we will drive to the Sacred Valley stopping at Chinchero town to share an interesting experience with local families that will teach you how to prepare an ancient Pachamanca meal into the ground. We will taste this delicious meal which has a millennial cooking technique with the help of hot stones, it includes a variety of potatoes, sweet potato, goose, “unkucha”, beans, corn, gratin Andean cheese, fresh chicken and lamb which are marinated with Andean spices and buried with the hot stones.

After our typical Andean lunch, we will walk through a lovely Andean path to reach the colonial church and the archeological complex of Chinchero. You will see fantastic Inca terraces, where the locals people cultivated very nutritious crops such as Quinoa, Kiwicha, and seeds that provided lots of energy. The archeological site of Chinchero gives visitors a better understanding of how vital this area was to agricultural production with food storehouses and a highly efficient irrigation system that shows the genius of this culture.

Continuing, we will begin our downhill hike over a single-track cobble-stoned Inca trail to Urquillos (Sacred Valley) following an original Inca path that was part of the Qhapaq Ñan, a network of ancient trails once used to connect the entire Inca Empire. In the trek you will enjoy the spectacular views as you descend from 11,220 feet to 9,420 feet, where the spectacular views of the mountains contrast beautifully with the flora and fauna until we reach the colonial town of Urquillos.

After that, we will continue to our hotel to enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 05 Visit Colpas of Checoq -Biking Tour Maras/Moray – Visit Ollantaytambo archeological site

The sunrise in the Sacred Valley is a beautiful spectacle for which it is worth waking up early.  We start from your hotel from where our transport will take you through the inter-Andean valleys to visit the “Collpas” of Checoq that were built by the Incas to preserve the grains, tubes and other species produced in the region. Right after we will begin our biking tour passing through breathtaking landscapes until we reach the colonial town of Maras where we will visit the Salt mines. The salt evaporates from the side of a mountain and fills the pans, here the families gather the salt by hand using no machinery, then we will reach the magnificent agricultural terraces of Moray, thought to have been an Inca laboratory in order to investigate and improve Andean farming techniques and afterwards we will get to our selected location to have an outdoor picnic while enjoying spectacular views from the Andes.

After lunch we will continue to Ollantaytambo, the original Inca town to be amazed by the archeological complex that sit in front of the quaint town.  Finally, we will get to our lodge to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 06 Ollantaytambo - Huilloq Indigenous community- train to Machu Picchu

Early in the morning we will leave our hotel in Ollantaytambo and we wil high up to Puna region until we reach the Indigenous Community of Huilloq, in our way we will make a stop to visit Pumamarca archeological site which are the remains of a hillside fortress that once guarded the entrance to the fertile Sacred Valley, it was built on a steep slope overlooking the convergence of the Río Patacancha and Yuracmayo rivers. The indigenous  Community of Huilloq are the direct native communities descendants of the Inka lineage, who preserve the culture, tradition and local ways of life for more than five hundred years.


The community is home for more than a hundred artisan women that are willing to share their ancient knowledge about textile art, through this activity they help to support their families economically as their husbands mainly work in agriculture and as porters in the Inca Trail.

You will learn the millenarian techniques they have used over the centuries where they will teach all the weaving process showing you how to hear the sheep's wool, wash the wool, how to use the “puska” or spin (preparation of the wool) and handling the spindle, the process of dyeing fibers with natural plants and minerals, how to twist the threads that are essential for the process, handling of the loom’s tools and preparation of the looms and their variations, according to combinations of icons and patterns.

 

We will return to Ollantaytambo  to pick up our luggage and then we will get to the train station to catch our train to Machu Picchu town. At your arrival a representative will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to relax at Machu Picchu Town.

Day 07 Machupicchu

After breakfast your guide will accompany you for an early bus for the sunrise at Machu Picchu. The first buses start leaving at 5.30am and take 30 minutes to get to Machu Picchu. The doors to Machu Picchu open at 6am.You will have about 4 hours for your visit in the Citadel when you will be able to enjoy this magnificent place before the crowds arrive later in the morning. Our professional guide will slowly show you around the main areas recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explaining about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After the tour will be time to head back down to the town by bus. Here you can find many restaurants offering lunch and afterwards you will board the return train through the Sacred Valley to Poroy town with a transfer back to Cusco arriving at approximately 8.30pm.

Day 8  Free morning or Optional Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain Peak

Today you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own pace.

You have the option to return to Machu Picchu Sanctuary and explore the site for a second time with a private guide or you can choose to visit the waterfalls of Mandor. Optionally you can choose to climb one of the Mountains in Machu Picchu: Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain Peak:

These short treks inside the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will make your day spectacular! You will hike up through Inca’s original paths that will lead you towards magical places within the Cloud Forest. With every step you will get fascinated by the beautiful views of the famous Andean Mountains. You can have a taste of the real Inca Trail doing this trek and appreciate the architectonic magnificence of the Incas.  You have to see it with your own eyes!

If you are staying at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel (4 stars category), you can opt to do one of the various excursions on the hotel grounds which include bird-watching, orchid and nature hikes with specialist guides as the Hotel is located inside the cloud forest, also you can enjoy the Unu Spa, characterized by a mystical Andean approach. The natural products are derived from local botanical extracts (mint, eucalyptus and orchids), offering a spiritual, sensual and relaxing experience.          

Please make sure you check out of your hotel before you leave for the Sanctuary and to pick up your luggage and to be at the train station half an hour before your train’s departure.

Return to Aguas Calientes and enjoy lunch on your own. Then board your train to the Poroy or Ollantaytambo station. Private transfer to your hotel in Cusco.


Note:  Tickets are subject to availability. There are schedules for the visit to one of the Mountains, with the Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu tickets you can stay inside the Park for 6 hours and with the Machu Picchu + Machu Picchu Mountain Peak ticket for 7 hours maximum.  The visit for one of the mountains has a moderate grading that requires a good physical condition although effort is well worth it. The Huayna Picchu hike is easier and takes less time than Machu Picchu Mountain Peak.

Day 9 Free Day in Cusco

Today enjoy a free day in Cusco visiting museums or simply walking down the picturesque streets around the City center. You can get to know the typical neighborhoods of San Cristobal and San Blas where Artisans congregate their shops and galleries, the cheerful and energy of this walk will make you feel the real essence of the City.

It will be a great chance to do shopping as Cusco is well known for its world-famous Alpaca wood clothing not only for their quality but for their design, also you will find Silver and gold shops for fine jewelry and a great offer for handicrafts.

At the end of the afternoon, we recommend you to make a stop to drink a refreshing and delicious Pisco Sour, Peru’s National cocktail. All around Cusco’s city center you will find numerous Bars, Cafes and Restaurants to have a taste of the Peruvian cuisine within a nice atmosphere.

Day 10 Cusco/Lima - City Tour – International flight

It is time to say goodbye to Cusco, at a scheduled time, we will transfer you to Cusco airport for your flight to Lima. On arrival to Lima our representative will meet you from the exit gate, it is advisable that you go straight over to leave your luggage in the airport storage.

Then you will be transferred to the drop off/pick up point in Miraflores in front of the Marriott Hotel. You will have free time for lunch.

In the early afternoon you will be picked up from in the drop off/Pick up point in front of the Marriott hotel for your guided Lima city tour in group service.

We first visit Lima’s Historical Center, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, and a Cultural Patrimony in 1991.

We will visit the colonial sites of the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archibishop’s Palace. Right after we visit the San Francisco Monastery and Catacombs. We continue to modern section and visit the suburbs of San Isidro and Miraflores. On our way we will pass by the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Inca pyramid shaped temple.

Then we will visit the Parque del Amor (Lovers Park) and enjoy refreshing views of the Pacific Ocean as we drive down to the Miraflores Malecon, a road overlooking the ocean. At the end of the tour you will be dropped back to Marriott Hotel were you have free time until your evening scheduled transfer to return to the airport for your international flight.
