Highlights of Cusco and Machu Picchu
We were fortunate to come across a discussion containing high praise for a tour company called Chaska Tours (www.chaskatours.com). We worked with Pieter and Rocio Valcarcel. Machu Picchu Pueblo
Rooms at the Hotel Andina are spacious and the riverside rooms have spectacular views of the mountains and river. All rooms have a bathtub and the six luxury rooms of the hotel include a Jacuzzi. All rooms have flat screen 32'' plasma TVs with cable. Hotel Andina Luxury has a sauna, a hot whirlpool, a massage centre and a restaurant in the basement; these new facilities are available to enjoy since a few monts.
Hotel Andina is the perfect choice when looking for a modern, new hotel at a reasonable price.
The hotel also has a conference room, which can be used by groups for free.
Hotel Encantada is far from the noisy streets, but still located in the centre and close to the Sacsayhuaman ruins. The Encantada Boutique Hotel is a marvellous place located in the higher part of Cusco's city centre.
All 15 rooms are divided among three floors in this modern styled hotel; on the upper floor there is a rooftop terracce and a spa. From both places you'll have an excellent view over the city, the surrounding mountains and the rooftops of San Blas while listening to the sound of the birds in the trees close by. The services of the Spa are exclusive guests of the hotel and must be reserved in advance.
The lobby is decorated in a very modern way with leather furniture, dark brown colours and offers a tranquil atmosphere, especially with the fire burning. The Internet, fruits and hot water for drinks are free to use and can be found in the hotel's lobby.
Plenty of natural light enters the spacious rooms because of the large windows.
Inkallpa Sacred Valley
Hotel Inkallpa in the Sacred Valley is a wonderful new hotel located in a small community called Yanahuara, about 20 minutes from the train station in Ollantaytambo. It took the Peruvian family, the Mayos, two years to construct this little paradise and they have operated this hotel from the beginning.
While at Hotel Inkallpa, surrounded by mountains and silence, it will certainly feel like you're very far away from the civilization, but no....with a simple 20 minute drive you're at the Ollantaytambo train station, from where your train leaves to Machupicchu.
Many people stay one night in the Sacred Valley and then start their journey onto Machupicchu. Hotel Inkallpa, however, is a place where you can spend more than a day relaxing, reading or meditating without feeling bored. At the end of July, their spa will also be ready and so you will have the opportunity to order a massage or to take a bath in their Jacuzzi.
A small river, complete with fountains and waterfalls, runs through the green fields and makes sure the flowers are showing their finest colors throughout the year. When lucky, the fruit trees are in bloom upon your check in and you can pick your own peaches, raspberries are any other fruit growing on the property.
Because of its lovely climate and beautiful scenery, the Sacred Valley is an excellent place to practice outdoor sports like horse riding, white water rafting, mountain biking, and paragliding or rock climbing. All these activities can be done in just one day with the start and end from Hotel Inkallpa. After a day full of activities and upon your return to the hotel, one suggestion would be to get a massage before going to your room to enjoy the sunset falling down over the Sacred Valley of the Inca's from your balcony with a glass of wine.
