Four day Inca Trail, Cusco and the Sacred Valley - Nine days

This tour is designed for people looking for a well prepared experience of the ancient four day Inca trail to Maccu Picchu. We also give you the chance to stay at some beautiful hotels. We start our adventure by immersing in the history and legends of Cusco. We visit the charming colonial neighborhoods of Cusco and the colourful Andean villages of the Sacred Valley. We visit awe-inspiring megalithic Inca buildings before starting the famous four day trail through the lush and tropical mountains to the hidden Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

  1. Arrival in Lima and connecting flight to Cusco. Afternoon City tour of Cusco
  2. Day excursion to the Sacred Valley, visiting Pisac market, the archaeological site of Pisac, Ollantaytambo and its fortress. Overnight in the Sacred Valley
  3. First day of the Inca trail from Km. 82 to Wayllabamba (approximately 6 hrs hike)
  4. Second day of Inca trail, hike from Wayllabamba to Pacaymayu (Approximately 6 hrs and a half hike)
  5. Third day of Inca trail, hike from Pacaymayu to Winay Wayna (approximately 7 hrs hike)
  6. Fourth day of Inca trail, from WinayWayna to Machu Picchu and guided tour of Machu Picchu Sanctuary (Approximately two and a half hrs hike and three hrs excursion)
  7. Free day at Machu Picchu to explore on your own or hike to Mandor Waterfall, Putucusi mountain, afternoon return to Cusco by train
  8. Fly to Lima, afternoon city tour of colonial and modern Lima, optional excursions or tours in the evening
  9. Transfer to Lima airport for your flight home

Day by day

Day 1 Lima to Cusco

Arrival in Lima. Connecting flight to Cusco. On arrival to Cusco airport we will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel, the rest of the morning will be at leisure to acclimatize to the altitude . In the afternoon, we will pick you up for your private walking tour of Cusco. We start our tour with a visit to the local market of San Pedro, then we will visit Qoricancha from  this place we will take a short walkl enjoying the atmosphere of Cusco, we  arrive to the Cathedral in the main square, continuing to see the famous 12 angle stone. From this point, we take our car to the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman and Qenko. Finishing back at your hotel. The rest of the day is free. In the evening at a scheduled time our guide will meet you in your hotel for your briefing of the Inca Trail (approximately 45 minutes meeting)

Day 2 Sacred Valley of the Incas

This morning we pick you up from your hotel for your private day excursion to The Sacred Valley of the Incas. We visit the colorful handicraft market of Pisac and then head up to the ruins of Pisac perched high in the mountains above. In Pisac we can enjoy a small typical Andean market and it offers good opportunities to buy local handicraft. We continue to Urubamba where a buffet lunch is served. After lunch we continue to Ollantaytambo where we visit the Archaeological site.   Ollantaytambo is an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning.  The town is located at the bottom of  spectacular Inca ruins, which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses.  At the end of your tour you will be taken to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Day 3 Inca Trail: Cusco - Km. 82 - Wayllabamba

This day we will have an early start with a pick up from your hotel in the Sacred Valley for an approximately half hour transfer to the starting point of the trail, which is located at Km 82 we will begin our trek by hiking along the left bank of the Vilcanota river, with the Veronica mountain overlooking the trailt 5,900m / 19,356.95 ft. We will camp tonight on a terrace near the small village of Wayllabamba (3,000 mts / 9,842.51 ft).

Day 4 Inca Trail: Wayllabamba - Pacaymayu

We will trek upward through the native forest to Pacaymayu - the highest campsite of the Inca Trail. This will be one of the most demanding days of the trail as we ascend to the mountain pass of Warmiwanuska (Dead Woman´s Pass at 4,200 mts /13,779.52 ft). At this point we will be rewarded with spectacular views of the peaks of Huayanay to the east, and the rugged Vilcabamba range to the west. Afterward, we will descend to our campsite at Pacaymayu (3,600 mts / 11,811.02 ft).

Day 5 Inca Trail: Pacaymayu - Winay Wayna

Today, we will cross a second mountain pass at 4,000m / 13,123.35 ft and follow a finely-paved and well-preserved Inca trail to the restored archaeological site of Sayacmarka. This section of the Inca Trail is paved with white granite and traverses a thickly forested slope. We will camp at Wiñaywayna ( 2650 mts / 8694.22 ft) after a spectacular descent from the cloud forest and high jungle. Wiñaywayna is a beautiful ceremonial site divided into two sectors and fashioned from finely-carved stones fit together withgreat precision.

Day 6 Inca Trail:  WinayWayna - Machu Picchu

Orchids and hummingbirds are a common sight along this stretch of the Inca Trail and the Urubamba river is a constant presence far below us. From Wiñaywayna we will continue to Intipunku or The Sun Gate, from where we will see Machupicchu for the first time stretched out below on a rocky outcropping. Overlooking the site we will see the peak known as Huayna Picchu. From this point, we need only to walkl down the final stretch of the royal trail and enter finally to the enigmatic citadel, which laid hidden for centuries before being revealed to the world by chance discovery.
(5 km – 3.1 mi / approximately  2.5 hours walking)
We will have a guided excursion of Machupicchu and free time in the afternoon, to explore the site by ourselves.

Day 7 Machu Picchu

Free day in and around Machu Picchu sanctuary. Enjoy many of the extra activities available in the area including Mandor Waterfall, Huayna Picchu Mountain, Putucusi mountain or if you are staying at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel you can enjoy the included nature excursions . Morning or afternoon return by train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy stations and transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 8 Cusco to Lima

Today you will depart by plane from Cusco to Lima. On arrival to Lima airport we will be waiting to take you to your hotel. Afternoon pick up from your hotel for the City tour of colonial Lima. We have a wide range of Lima city tours including evening dinner excursions. At the end of your tour we will take you back to your hotel.

Day 9: International Flight

Transfer to the airport in Lima for your international flight.

    Encantada

    Hotel Encantada is far from the noisy streets, but still located in the centre and close to the Sacsayhuaman ruins. The Encantada Boutique Hotel is a marvellous place located in the higher part of Cusco's city centre.

    All 15 rooms are divided among three floors in this modern styled hotel; on the upper floor there is a rooftop terracce and a spa. From both places you'll have an excellent view over the city, the surrounding mountains and the rooftops of San Blas while listening to the sound of the birds in the trees close by. The services of the Spa are exclusive guests of the hotel and must be reserved in advance. 

    The lobby is decorated in a very modern way with leather furniture, dark brown colours and offers a tranquil atmosphere, especially with the fire burning. The Internet, fruits and hot water for drinks are free to use and can be found in the hotel's lobby.

    Plenty of natural light enters the spacious rooms because of the large windows.

    Pakaritampu Sacred Valley

    Hotel Pakaritampu´s impressive gardens and professional staff, this hotel offers you everything you need during your stay in the Sacred Valley of the Incas'.

    The hotel has a total of 37 rooms, which are divided among 4 blocks. The newest block was finished last year and only has superior rooms. In between all the separate blocks you will find beautiful gardens with fruit trees, colourful flowers and, when lucky, even some hummingbirds.

    In the garden, the hotel also has a telescope which you can use to have a closer look at the ruins; these are also visible from here.

    The restaurant inside offers a great variety of meals and some days they offer a buffet lunch as well. It opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and closes at 9:30 PM. Room-service, luggage storage, internet on site, TV room, library, and a bar with fire place or some of the features this hotel has to offer for which you'll not be bored while staying at Hotel Pakaritampu.

    Runcu

    Hotel Runcu is a modern hotel set on a relatively quiet street in a safe area of Miraflores.

    The hotel is only 2 blocks away from the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful waterfront parks of Miraflores and it is  10 minute walk to the busy area of Parque Kennedy, where you find many restaurants and shops.

    Rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is helpful and friendly. Hotel Runcu received a certicate of excellence from Tripadvisor in 2011.
     
    The hotel serves a personalized breakfast on the 8th floor of the hotel from where you have a nice view of the surroundings.
