Salkantay trek, Sacred Valley, Cusco and Titicaca Lake
This is a program that combines Cusco, the Sacred Valley, The Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu and the well known excursion to Titicaca Lake. We start from Cusco, a fascinating city with an exquisite mixture of amazing Inca megalithic stonework and the charming architecture from the colonial period, we visit the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas before starting our hike.
We take the fantastic four day Salkantay trek which will lead us to the lost city of Machu Picchu. We will trek around the base of the high snow-capped Salkantay mountain (6,271 mts / 20574.14 ft). The trail offers an extraordinary variety of ecological regions, from tropical valleys to glacial steppes. We will continue our way to Puno in the south of Peru to visit the Islands on the Titicaca lake.

Day 1 Arrival to Lima
On arrival to Lima, we wait for you at the airport to transfer you to your hotel in Miraflores. For customers arriving in the late evening we offer the option of the four star Costa del Sol Hotel which is directly connected to the airport by footbridge. If you opt for the airport hotel make your own way over to the Costa del Sol Hotel and check in. You will find that the hotel is just a short walk from the airport arrival lounge. Please collect your Chaska Tours holiday hotel vouchers at the reception desk of the Hotel.

Day 2 Classic City Tour of Cusco
This morning you return to the airport for your flight to Cusco. On arrival to Cusco we will be waiting to take you to your hotel. After your check in, we will give you a briefing about the upcoming activities and we will provide you with all the required documents and helpful information. In the afternoon we will meet you at your hotel for the classic city tour of Cusco, including four archaeological sites. First, we visit the impressive Qoricancha temple and then take a short walk through the typical streets of Cusco to the main square, where we visit the Cathedral of Cusco. Then we take the road to the hills overlooking Cusco where we find the megalithic sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Pukapukara and Tambomachay. After the tour we will return to Cusco and drop you back to your hotel. In the evening you will have a pre Inca trail briefing at your hotel with your guide.

Day 3 Full Day Sacred Valley Tour
This morning we will depart from Cusco heading up and over the highlands towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We arrive at Pisac to visit the colourful Pisac village market. Here you can bargain for some of the many artisan goodies on offer. then we will head up to Pisac ruins located high up overlooking the valley. After an hour exploring this magnificent site we head back down and through the valley until we reach the town of Urubamba. Here we will have a buffet lunch before continuing to Ollantaytambo town to visit the ruins, which are located on top of the mountain overlooking the town. Then we head to Chinchero which is a small Andean village located high up on the windswept plains of Anta at 3762m. There are beautiful views overlooking the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the Cordillera Vilcabamba and the snow-capped peak of Salkantay dominating the western horizon. The village mainly comprises mud brick (adobe) houses, and locals still go about their business in traditional dresses. After the visit to Chinchero we return to Cusco.

Day 4 Salkantay Trek
Day 1 Cusco - Mollepata – Salkantay Pampa
After an early morning pick-up from your hotel, we will go by private bus to the village of Mollepata. From the tropical valley of Mollepata with its citrus groves, we will go to Choquekiclla for our first views of the southern faces of the Salkantay (6,271 meters) and Humantay (6, 217 meters) mountains, both sacred to the people of the Andes. Our first campsite for tonight is at Salkantay Pampa

Day 5 Salkantay Trek
Day 2 Salkantay Pampa - Totora
Today we begin our ascent to the Apacheta pass (4,590 meters). We will have a magnificent view of the snow-capped Salkantay and Humantay mountains, as well as other interesting geological formations. After a brief time to rest, we will continue our trek downward to Huayracpampa, and on to our campsite at Totora, where we can enjoy the nearby thermal baths.

Day 6 Salkantay Trek
Day 3 Totora - La Playa
We will go on an easy hike into the cloud forest or "Ceja de Selva". Once downhill, during the relaxed hike along the river we will be able to observe a wide variety of tropical flora and fauna and even take time for a sprinkle under a waterfall. Finally, we arrive to our last campsite at La Playa (2,350 meters).

Day 7 Salkantay Trek
Day 4 La Playa – Llactapata - Aguas Calientes
In approximately one and a half hours we arrive to the pass of Lucmabamba traversing the dense cloud forest, where we have our first possibility of sighting Machu Picchu lying in front of us. After a relaxing break, we now descend to the Urubamba valley, passing a footbridge and arriving at the hydroelectric plant with its small railway station early in the afternoon. Here we will take a short train ride to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hostel.

Day 8 Tour of Machu Picchu - Cusco
We start early, taking breakfast and then with our guide we take the bus up to the citadel of Machu Picchu on time to catch the magnificent sunrise. Our guide will slowly show you around the main areas, recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explaining about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After your tour you will have plenty of time to look around maybe do some other treks, available in the surrounding mountains. After lunch it will be time to board the afternoon return train to Poroy town and then a transfer back to Cusco.

Day 9 Cusco - Tourist Bus to Puno
Bus to Puno option included
Transfer to the bus station for your First class bus ride to Puno, You will visit four archaeological sites along the way. Upon arrival to Puno we take you to your hotel.

Alternative option: Laketiticaca Train
Travel in style on the Laketiticaca train. Morning transfer to the local train station of Cusco where we start the spectacular rail journey to Puno, which runs on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The glass-walled observation coaches provide the perfect opportunity to view the beautiful scenery. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route. First class lunch is served aboard the train in style. A music and fashion show and a bar-tending lesson will also be part of your experience aboard.

Day 10 Lake Titicaca
Today we will pick you up from your hotel to the port where a boat awaits you to visit one of the highest lakes in the world (3800 meters / 12467.19 feet). We will explore the floating islands of the Uros, inhabited by traditional fisherman and their families. We continue the tour for the island of Taquile where the local people are experts in traditional weaving techniques. On finishing your tour you will be dropped back to your hotel.

Day 11: Transfer to Juliaca airport
Today we meet you at your hotel and take you to the airport in Juliaca for your flight to Lima.

On arrival to Lima airport we will pick you up from the exit gate and help you to store your luggage at the airport storage office. Then, we will take you to the center of Lima, to the drop-off / pick-up point- The Marriott Hotel. Depending on your flight times you will have free time for lunch. At 2 pm you will need to be in front of the Marriott hotel to start the City Tour of Lima. (Please ask us for variations of the Lima City Tour). In the evening we will meet you at the same drop-off / pick-up and take you to the airport for your international flight back home.
