Overview

This tour has been especially designed for people interested in hiking whose physical condition is good. In order to give time to acclimatize, first we will visit all the important areas of Cusco and the Sacred Valley before taking the challenging four day Inca trail.

We will start taking you to Cusco, a unique city with its mixture of Inca and Colonial architecture, then we will continue to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, which holds beautiful Inca temples and palaces.

The next part of our trip will be the Inca trail, here our experienced crew will help to make the camping experience more like a hotel stay. This amazing trail is an unforgettable journey that will take you to the lost city of Machu Picchu.

On your arrival to Lima you will either be met by our representative and taken to your hotel or make your way over to the Costa del Sol Hotel and check in. You will find that the Costa del Sol hotel is just a short walk from the airport arrival lounge. Please pick up your Chaska Tours holiday vouchers that will be waiting for you at the reception desk of your hotel.

This morning you will return to the airport for your flight to Cusco. On your arrival to Cusco our representative will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel. After your check in you will have a briefing about the activities of the next coming days, the rest of the morning will be free to relax and adjust to the altitude. In the afternoon your guide will come to pick you up from your hotel for your city that will include visiting the highlights in the central part of the city and two archaeological sites. We will visit the impressive Qoricancha temple and then we will take a short walk through the beautiful old streets of Cusco to visit the Cathedral in the main square. From this point our car will take us to the megalithic site of Sacsayhuaman and after we will visit Qenko, We will finish our tour taking you back to your hotel.In the evening you will have a meeting with your guide to get detailed information about the Inca trail.

NOTE: We strongly suggest the meeting for the Inca trail the first day in Cusco to have plenty of time to get everything necessary for the hike.

This morning, we will have our day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will visit the colorful handicraft market of Pisac and in the afternoon the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. At Pisac we can enjoy a handicraft market with good opportunities to buy local souvenirs. We will continue to Urubamba to a restaurant where a buffet lunch is served. After lunch we continue to Ollantaytambo where we will visit the archaeological site. Ollantaytambo is an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning. The town is located at the bottom of an impressive Inca construction, which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The religious area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses against the attacks of some tribes. At the end of the tour we will take you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

This morning we will have an early start for our hiking adventure. We will pick you up from your hotel in the Sacred Valley for your transfer to the starting point of the Inca trail at Km 82, we will begin our trek by hiking along the left bank of the Vilcanota river, with a splendid view of the Veronica Mountain (5,900mts / 19,356.95 ft). We will camp on a terrace near the small village of Wayllabamba (3,000m / 9,842.51 ft).

We will trek upward through native forest to Pacaymayu – the highest campsite of the Inca Trail. Today will be one of the most demanding days of the trail in terms of physical effort as we ascend to the first mountain pass of Warmiwañuska (Dead Woman´s Pass at 4,200 mts /13,779.53 ft). At this point we will be rewarded with spectacular views of the peaks of Huayanay to the east, and the rugged Vilcabamba range to the west. Afterward, we will descend to our campsite at Pacaymayu (3,600m / 11,811 ft).

This day, we will cross a second mountain pass located at 4,000 mts / 13,123.35 ft and follow a finely paved and well-preserved Inca trail to the restored archaeological site of Sayacmarka. This section of the Inca Trail is paved with white granite and traverses a thickly forested slope. We will camp at Wiñaywayna (2650m / 8694.22 ft) after a spectacular descent from the cloud forest and high jungle. Wiñaywayna is a beautiful ceremonial site divided into two sectors and fashioned from finely-carved stones fit together with great precision.

Orchids and hummingbirds will be a common sight along this stretch of the Inca Trail and the Urubamba River is a constant presence far below us. From Wiñaywayna we will continue to Intipunku or The Sun Gate, here we will see Machu Picchu for the first time stretched out below on a rocky outcropping. right in front of the site you will find the peak known as Huayna Picchu. From this point, we need to walk down the final stretch of the royal trail and enter to the enigmatic citadel, which laid hidden for centuries before being revealed to the world by chance discovery.
(5 km – 3.1 mi / approximately two and a half hours walking)
Guided excursion of Machu Picchu and in the afternoon, we will return to Cusco by train, arriving in the late evening.

On arrival to Lima airport we will pick you up from the exit gate and help you to store your luggage at the airport storage office. Then we will take you to the centre of Lima, to the drop-off / pick-up point – The Marriott Hotel. Depending on your flight times you will have free time for lunch. At 2 pm you will need to be in front of the Marriott hotel to start the City Tour of Lima. (Please consult us for variations of the Lima City Tour). In the evening we will meet you at the same drop-off / pick-up point and take you to the airport for your international flight back home.
