Overview

Join us on a 21 day adventure crossing 3 countries visiting the absolute highlights of South America on this tour. We start with Rio de Janeiro, home of the Samba dances and music. You have a day to yourself to explore the city or choose optional excursions.
We then travel to Foz de Iguazu to see the the largest waterfalls system of the world. The Iguassu falls are also one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site. On your tour you will see the falls both from the Argentianianas the Brazilian side.

From Foz de Iguazu we journey to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, the city of tango. Argentina’s capital is a thriving portside metropolis defined by a rich history, vibrant culture and strong European influence – with the result that it’s sometimes called ‘The Paris of South America’. From Buenos Aires we fly to Lima, the capital of Peru. The colonial centre is a must see and declared a Unesco world heritage site, it is also considere the best place in South America for foodies with 2 restaurants listed in the top 50 best restaurants of the world. In Arequipa, also know as «the white city» we visit the Santa Catalina Monastery a city within the citu and on request «Juanita, the ice-mummy. The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon at 13,650 feet. Hike into the Canyon (optional) or relax at the hot springs of your hotel. At the condors cross we can spot the Andean condors which can have a wingspan of 3 meters.

On the largest navigable lake of the world take a small boat to Uros, the floating reed islands in Lake Titicaca and we visit Taquile island famous for its weaving and knitting. From Lake Titicaca we travel by bus or with the Andena Explorer train to Cusco, the Inca Capital in the Andes.
From Cusco we explore the Sacred Valley to step back in time and learn from a local community how they use medicinal plants, we end our journey with an excursion of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary

Depart from the hotel to visit the Christ Statue recently elected as one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The statue sits 2,300 ft. above sea level, atop Corcovado Hill. Following a scenic drive along the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, we will arrive at the foot of the hill, where we embark on a small train which climbs the beautiful mountainside. Upon reaching the top, visitors will experience a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and discover why it is known as the “Marvelous City”!

Departure from the Hotel Cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge with its lovely view of the Iguassu Canyon heading towards the Iguaçu National Park in Argentina. Visit the upper walkways wich allow a different perspective and more intimate contact with the falls and adjoining rainforest filled with orchids, bromeliads, birds and other wildlife. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the Devil’s Throat – largest of the waterfalls.

In the afternoon we will take an urban trekking over the southern part of the city. The visit starts from the site of the second and final foundation, today known as Mayo Square. From here the tour continues through San Telmo neighborhood, one of the oldest in the city, walking on cobblestone streets we arrive at the San Telmo market, while preserving antique shops of vegetables and meats, today is a tourist place and the antique shops abound.
Walking on Defensa street we can observe some of the notable bars, symbol of Buenos Aires. In Lezama Park is “El Británico” (The
British) which owes its name to British ex-combatants of the World War I, that stayed in a nearby hotel that became in their favorite gathering place.
We pass through the park, which some historians regard it as the site where the first Foundation of the city took place and from here we start to transit through the Republic of La Boca to arrive to Caminito street with its typical tenements of veneer, show their walls painted in different colors and turn it into an open museum. Free time and at the end, return to the hotel.

Transfer Out from your hotel to the airport. Flight Buenos Aires – Lima. On arrival to Lima, we wait for you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Miraflores, you have free time for lunch.
MODERN LIMA
We will begin our tour visiting the modern suburbs of San Isidro and Miraflores where we will see the Financial Center, the San Isidro Golf Course and the Olive Grove Park. We will also go by the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-inca pyramid shape temple that has survived the expansion of modern civilization. We will stop at Larcomar Mall and enjoy a nice view of the Pacific Ocean, as we drive down the Miraflores Malecon, a road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.
COLONIAL LIMA
We will visit downtown Lima`s historical center, designated by Unesco as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1991. In this journey we will enjoy what once was the center of the 16th century Spanish colony. We will see the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop`s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. We will also see Plaza San Martin, a large park surrounded by old colonial buildings still displaying beautiful carved wood balconies and other landmarks.
SAN FRANCISCO MONASTERY AND CATACOMBS
We shall visit the San Francisco Monastery and its famous underground crypts known as the Catacombs. At the end of the tour you will have a choice to either shop at the Indian Market, Larcomar Mall or return to your hotel.

Transfer from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Arequipa. Arrive and reception by our staff and transfer to your hotel. Morning free to relax. This afternoon your guide will meet you in the hotel to start your private tour. Visit the Main Square, Yanahuara church and observatory, most important churches, like San Francisco, the Compania de Jesus’ famous cloisters, colonial houses, and a special visit to the Santa Catalina Convent and Cloisters. Return to your hotel.

This morning, after breakfast your guide will meet you in your hotel. We drive to the Colca Canyon across Pampa Cañahuas at the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, habitat of herds of vicuñas and stopping at the Mirador de los Andes, the crater of Chucura, the Mirador de Chivay, where beautiful pre-Columbian terraces still being cultivated by native Collaguas can be observed. Arrive at the town of Chivay and transfer to your hotel. You will have free time to enjoy the hot springs.

Today you will visit the «Condor’s Cross» from where the great Andean bird, the Condor, may be spotted flying in circles above still farmed green pre-Hispanic terraces, in the afternoon. Our staff greets you at the bus terminal and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to explore the city.

Today we will leave for the port where a boat awaits you to visit one of the highest lakes in the world (3800 meters / 9,000 feet). We will explore the floating island of Uros where the natives make their boats and island of totora reeds. We continue the tour for the island of Taquile where the local people are experts in traditional weaving techniques. Return to Puno and transfer to your hotel.

Transfer to the bus station for your first class bus to Cusco. This daylong bus ride takes you past snow- covered peaks, through high and wide Andean valleys where llamas graze on spiky grass. As you pass by villages with cobblestone streets and you’ll see people making adobe bricks by hand. On our way to Cusco we will visit La Raya, the highest point between Cusco and Puno (14234 feet / 3800 meters), The litho-sculptures of Pukara, Raqchi, the temple of the God Wiracocha and Andahuaylillas. The church of Andahuaylillas is known as the «Sistine Chapel of America». It is known as one of the best-preserved examples of Andean religious art. Arrival in Cusco and transfer to hotel.

CONSULTANT NOTES
This is a group tour by bus. an alternative is to take the Andean Explorer train operated by Orient Express, a unique luxury experience; enjoy the two dining cars decorated in the style of the Pullman cars of the 1920s.
The Andean Explorer runs to and from Puno every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from April to October. From November through March, departures are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

This morning your guide will come to collect you from your hotel for your privately guided city tour, including 2 archeological sites. We visit the impressive Qoricancha temple and then take a short stroll through the atmospheric streets of Cusco visiting the Cathedral in the main square and then on to see the famous 12 angle Inca stone. From here our car will takes us to the megalithic site of Sacsayhuaman and then Qenko. Finishing back at your hotel you have the rest of the afternoon free.

At 8.00 a.m. we set off from Cusco heading up and over the highlands towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We arrive at Pisac situated along the Urubamba River and continue to the Amaru Indigenous community. You will enjoy a distinct cultural experience with an ethnobotany tour of traditional medicines. Learn the secrets of the traditional medicine plants of the Yachaqs, or of the wise people of the Andes. Afterwards, we will have an opportunity to share some time with the lovely Indigenous children and their families.
Peru is one of the countries with the highest use of medicinal plants in the world. Even to this day they are still revealing new plants and their uses already known in the past but forgotten in the labyrinths of history. Today we start from your hotel around 8:20am for our day excursion to the Sacred Valley Of the Incas. We visit the colorful indigenous market of Pisac and in the afternoon the archeological site of Ollantaytambo. At Pisac we can enjoy a small typical Andean market and it offers good opportunities to buy local handicraft and visit the archeological site with the same name. We continue to Urubamba where a buffet
lunch is served.
After lunch we continue on to Ollantaytambo where we visit the Archeological site. Ollantaytambo is an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning. The town is located at the foot of some spectacular Inca ruins, which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses. At the end of our tour we check-in to our hotel in the Sacred Valley.

We start the day early and you will be collected from your hotel by your personal guide for your half day adventure to different historical and magical places in the Sacred Valley. We first go to Chinchero high up in the green valley plains of Anta (3760m) which offers spectacular views of the Sacred Valley. We then visit Maras – a little adobe town situated in a beautiful secluded part of the Valley, Moray – the magnificent agricultural terraces, thought to have been an Incan laboratory in order to investigate and improve Andean farming techniques and Salineras (salt pans) – a stunning & beautiful salt farming system. We will stop for your lunch in a the Andenes de Yanahuara, at 4pm approximately we will transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station for your trip to Machupicchu.

We start early, taking breakfast and then with our guide we take the bus up to the citadel of Machu Picchu in time to catch the magnificent sunrise. Our professional guide will slowly show you around the main areas, recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explain about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After your tour you will have plenty of time to look around maybe do some of the other treks, which are available in the surrounding mountains. After lunch it will be time to board the afternoon return train through the Sacred Valley to Poroy town and then a transfer back to Cusco.
