On arrival to Lima, our representative will wait for you at the airport to transfer you to your hotel. For customers arriving in the late evening we offer the option to upgrade to the four-star airport Hotel which is direclty connected to the airport. If you opt for the airport hotel make your own way over there to the hotel and check in. You will find that the hotel is just a short walk from the airport arrival lounge. Please collect your Chaska Tours holiday hotel vouchers that will be at the reception desk of the Hotel. 

Overnight in Lima
No meals

Walk back to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado.
We will be waiting for your arrival in Puerto Maldonado to begin your Amazon rainforest tour, first we will check-in at the Butterfly house & lounge. Then, we will travel to our lodgings by motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River (approximately 25-minutes). On our arrival to the lodge it will be time for a buffet lunch that will offer us a mixture of organic ingredients and native flavors.

After lunch we take a nature trail walk where you will discover and learn about primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world. At dusk, you will navigate on a canoe in a twighlight excursion. Boating on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystems, Amazon creeks, nocturnal animals’ behavior and the southern constellations. Back to the main building for dinner.

USEFUL INFORMATION

For the Amazon Tour there are previous considerations:

-It is advised for children upon 5 years old.

– Most lodges will provide you rainboots for excursions.

– Vaccination are not mandatory but are highly recommended, you can take vaccination against Yellow Fever before your trip.

– If you take any medication, please be sure to take them as the Amazon Lodge is located far away from the City.

Overnight – Amazon Lodge

After breakfast we have a long trek through terra firma in the Tambopata National Reserve heading to Sandoval Lake. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of the world and we learn about the reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. We travel across the oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter, the blue and yellow macaw, the red howler monkey and the black caiman. We head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch we will be ready for the canopy walkway and anaconda walk. We ascend one of the two 98 ft (30 mts) towers and cross the hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 90 ft (28 mts) high. Here we will have breathtaking views and we can watch toucans, woodpeckers, squirrel monkeys and the three-toed sloth. We will continue our walk along the 200-meter wooden bridge over some swamps and learn about the fauna and flora of these flooded ecosystems. At the end of the tour we will return to the lodge where we will have dinner.

After breakfast we will take a canoe ride back to Puerto Maldonado. Arrive at the Butterfly house & lounge where you may wait for your flight to Cusco.  We fly from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco and on arrival our representative will be waiting to take you to your hotel. Free time to relax and acclimatize in Cusco or optional excursions.

Morning free to rest and relax and acclimatize.
In the afternoon your guide will come to pick you up from your hotel for your private guided city tour, including two archaeological sites. We visit the impressive Temple of the Sun known in the Inca times as the Qoricancha, then we will take a short walk through the traditional streets of Cusco downtown, visiting the Cathedral in the main square. This is probably the most interesting place to admire the religious art that was developed during the colonial period. We will continue by car to the impressive site of Sacsayhuaman and then we will visit Qenko, a shrine dedicated to worship the land. After this visit, we will drive back to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon will be free for some axplorations on your own.

Overnight in Cusco

This will be a full day tour where you will enjoy the varied landscapes of the beautiful Río Urubamba Valley, known as “Valle Sagrado de los Incas”, along the way we can see attractive colonial towns and isolated villages of indigenous communities that continue their tradition for weaving, pottery and agriculture. Main attractions will be the handicraft markets and the lofty Inca citadels of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, it is definitely the perfect match between a cultural experience, the andean sunlight and delicious typical food.

We will visit first the famous Pisac Colorful Indian market to see the handicrafts and taste delicious empanadas baked in huge typical ovens. Afterwards, continue to the Pisac ruins above the town for a visit of the Sun Temple and admire the many surrounding terraces. We will continue to Urubamba to enjoy lunch, then off to one of the original Inca towns of Ollantaytambo to be amazed by the ruins that sit in front of the quaint town.  The religious area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses against the attacks of some tribes.

After the tour we will go to the train station to board the train to Machupicchu.

On your arrival to Aguas Calientes station, our representative will help you go to your hotel. Our guide will visit you at your hotel to brief you about the program for the next day.

You will have the evening free to relax or walk in town.

Overnight in Machu Picchu town

After breakfast your guide will accompany you for an early bus for the sunrise at Machu Picchu. The first buses start leaving at 5.30am and take 30 minutes to get to Machu Picchu. The doors to Machu Picchu open at 6am.You will have about 4 hours for your visit in the Citadel when you will be able to enjoy this magnificent place before the crowds arrive later in the morning. Our professional guide will slowly show you around the main areas recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explaining about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After the tour will be time to head back down to the town by bus. Here you can find many restaurants offering lunch and afterwards you will board the return train through the Sacred Valley to Poroy town with a transfer back to Cusco arriving at approximately 8.30pm.
