In the morning we will travel to the town of Lambayaque to visit Huaca Rajada, a Moche pyramid and the place chosen to safeguard the remains of The Lord of Sipan. The Lord ruled around 200 AD over the Moche culture, and his gold-laden tomb is considered to be the richest in the Americas.
At Huaca Rajada an exact replica of the tomb can be seen, revealing the complex funerary rites employed by Moche culture, and their belief in an afterlife.
Then you will visit the *Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, that exhibits the most important archaeological remains of the Mochica Culture, in an exceptional exhibition that combines maximum scientific accuracy, security and enjoyment to show the jewels, emblems and ornaments found in 1987 in the tomb of the Lord of Sipán. The Lord of Sipan was adorned with remarkable jewelry fashioned from gold, silver, turquoise and Spondylus shell, and he was accompanied by women, children and warriors. *The museum is closed on Mondays.
After lunch, we will visit the 26 pre-Columbian pyramids of Tucume. These pyramids were excavated by Thor Heyerdahl (of Kon-tiki fame), who discovered 102 burial sites, textiles, Incan figurines and depictions of reed boats.
