OVERVIEW

With our Urubamba walking tour, you will be able to explore on foot some of the most fascinating places in Urubamba while immersing yourself in its culture, traditions, and history. Accompanied by passionate local guides, you will discover the city and witness traces of pre-Hispanic, colonial, republican, and contemporary times in ways you never imagined before.

Our meeting point will be the Plaza de Armas in Urubamba. Here, after an introduction to the city’s history, we will visit San Pedro Apóstol Church, the most striking building in the square and a symbol of the population’s Catholic faith.

Next, we will head to the local market to explore its rich variety of products, including fruits, vegetables, tubers, dairy products, coffee, cacao, handmade bread, traditional foods, and much more.

We will continue our walk to a private home, where we will visit coffee plantations and witness a unique an experience exclusive to the Sacred Valley. Them, we will visit the Fundamentos Cultural Museum. After this activity, we will arrive at the remains of the Palace of the Inca WAYNA QHAPAQ, located in the area known as Qespiwanka, where the contemporary cemetery now stands.

Following this visit, we will walk along a section of an original Inca path, once part of the Qhapaq Ñan, the vast Andean road system. Our next stop will be the Monastery of Recoleta, the first monastery in Peru established by the Franciscan order.

Our journey continues to Yucay, where we will visit the largest Inca terraces in the Americas and the palace of Inca Sayri Túpac. We will conclude our tour here, with the option to visit the Life Culture Museum. This museum showcases various customs of the Sacred Valley’s people, including their traditional textiles, gastronomy, beverages, ceramics, and more.
